Historically, September is usually Wall Street’s worst performing month, over the past ten and 20 years, and even longer – since 1950. It is also the only month to average a negative return since 1925. Election cycles offer some reprieve, with equities advancing in 63% of Septembers in presidential election years, though median returns for these events are a paltry 0.3%. Even so, that beats out non-election years.
