Brian Payne helps investors understand the risks, opportunities, and portfolio implications across private markets and alternative investments. His work focuses on developing forward-looking views and quantitative expectations for Private Equity, Private Credit, Hedge funds, Infrastructure, and Real Estate.
Brian leads the firm’s global private market research. He provides independent research on portfolio construction, private market trends, and asset allocation, helping institutional and wealth management investors navigate evolving market environments and identify attractive risk-adjusted opportunities.
Before joining BCA in 2022, Brian was an Investment Officer at the Teachers’ Retirement System of Illinois, where he restructured and oversaw a multi-asset portfolio exceeding $5 billion across Hedge Funds, Private investments, and Opportunistic strategies. Earlier in his career, he was a researcher and trader at Potomac River Capital and advised on alternative investments and asset allocation at Fortigent, an investment consulting firm serving RIAs and institutional clients.
Brian is a CFA charterholder and CAIA charterholder with more than 15 years of experience evaluating alternative investments and institutional portfolios. He is a frequent speaker on private markets, portfolio construction, and investment strategy. Brian holds a BA in Economics and Political Science from St. Mary's College of Maryland.
