Turmoil in Egypt: Implications for Regional Geopolitics and Financial Markets

The mass revolt against the political status quo in Tunisia and Egypt is a defining geopolitical moment. But, how it will all play out is still very unclear. Are we about to see the spread of democracy throughout the region, or will recent events simply unleash more instability and uncertainty in what has long been a very volatile and troubled part of the world? It is critical to understand the forces that will determine which way it goes.

On Thursday, February 3, BCA Strategists Martin Barnes and Arthur Budaghyan hosted a teleconference with renowned historian and political commentator Niall Ferguson and Imad Mansour, an expert in Middle East politics from McGill University to discuss these issues. A replay of this Audio Webcast is available from the link below.

Unfortunately, Niall Ferguson was called to an emergency meeting with several European heads of state at the same time as the webcast and was only available for a portion of the originally scheduled time. However he was able to provide his succinct view on the developing situation in Egypt.

Several clients informed us that they had difficulty connecting to the webcast. We are investigating this problem with our service partner in order to avoid these issues in the future.
